DESCRIPTION:We are honored to host musician Dave Seidel for an afternoon of deep listening.\n\nDave will play a new piece in memory of the revered composer Éliane Radigue. Dave will perform a new piece called “Six Bardos for Éliane Radigue” exploring his interpretation of some of the techniques used by Radigue in her work\, based on carefully controlled feedback and slow changes in a meditative setting.\n\nDave Seidel composes and performs electroacoustic music with an emphasis on long tones and microtonal sonorities.\nAlong with many Bandcamp releases (mysterybear.bandcamp.com)\, he has two CD releases: “~60 Hz” on Irritable Hedgehog (2014) and “Involution” on XI Records (2021). In a previous life as a guitarist\, he is best known for the premiere recording of Lois V Vierk’s “五 Guitars” (“Go Guitars”) on Vierk’s CD “Simoom” (XI Records\, 1991). He lives in Peterborough\, New Hampshire.\n\nThe event is free\, we encourage a donation for the artist.

DJ Prismatic aka WVEW’s Starfish and Coffee will be setting the atmosphere\, spinning vinyl in our Chocolate Kissa to hang and vibe to. \nThis is a SHOP CRAWL– each participating shop in downtown Brattleboro is hosting a tastemaker who will have a TASTE for you to sample. Distilleries\, breweries\, wineries\, chocolatiers\, confectioners\, cheesemakers\, so many tastes! AND there’s a non-alcoholic option at every stop. SUMMARY:Candace Jensen: Long Live the Weeds & the Wilderness
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to host this show! \nLong Live the Weeds & the Wilderness features a selection of works from local artist Candace Jensen’s numerous ongoing series\, all of which feature the decorated and written word in service to themes of animism\, deep ecology\, interdependence\, and earth-sacredness. \nHer A New Scripture series are hand decorated and illuminated published books which center deep ecology and scientific methodologies that decenter human supremacy. \nThe Gaia Illuminations feature poetry\, essay and illegible language in organic illumination compositions\, which centre deep ecological orientation and blurred subjectivity\, inviting human consciousness to blend and comingle with animate others. They are an experiment in lifting up animistic perspective to the level of holy texts. \nHer letterpress work is often in service to broadsides for other poets\, sometimes through her work with the Ruth Stone House (Goshen\, VT). In this case\, a poem by a colleague and friend\, Caro Ross\, which adapts the commonly known “Lord’s Prayer” as an Earth Prayer\, and a specific poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins which has inspired the artist for a number of years: it is an ode to a creek in Southwestern Scotland\, but does such a beautiful job of conveying reverence\, awe and love for water and watery\, weed-ridden and wet places\, which are oft denigrated or desecrated by the dominant culture. The Hopkins poem is also where the show gets its title.
